The New Testament
God, please provide us with understanding so that we
may see and hear Your letter to us.
The Book of James 1-5
[Bible lesson information will appear
James 1:1 James, a
servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are
scattered abroad, greeting.
[This is written to the 12 tribes that are scattered abroad. The 10 tribes
that went over the Caucasian Mountains and went on to Europe and the United
James 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers
[When we fall into trials it means we are doing the right thing. When satan
comes against us then we are either hurting him or he wants us. Christ gave
us power over satan so we can utilize it.
As it is written:
Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the
devils are subject unto us through thy name.
Luke 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from
Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions,
and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt
We can use this power in Christ's name. That is why He gave it to us.]
James 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
[When we are tried it increases our faith because we know how God has helped
us in love and understanding. It does give us patience because we know God
is in control.]
James 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and
entire, wanting nothing.
[We try to be perfect but it is better translated as mature or in a mature
sense. We can become mature Christians. No one is perfect but patience will
help you to do God's work better because we know we are not in it alone. We
would be hard-pressed if God didn't give us gifts like memory, being able to
teach, gifts of serving Him. God gives us charisma to be able to acquire
James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all
men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
[God simply and freely gives us wisdom without chiding us. That's a promise
of God. God wants us to understand His word.
As it is written:
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools
despise wisdom and instruction.
[The beginning of knowledge is the reverence of the Lord. Revering God and
loving Him is the beginning of eternal wisdom. When we are studying we might
become perplexed. All we have to do is to ask Him for wisdom to see and
understand His word. If we are sincere, He will give us that understanding.]
James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth
is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
[We should be not be bashful about asking our Father for wisdom and
understanding. Do not be a doubting Thomas, tossed like the whitecaps on the
sea. God does not appreciate doubting.]
James 1:7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the
[Believers know that God promised this because He loves us and cares. He
tells us how to build up our faith that begins believing and loving. We
cannot help loving Father when we have faith in Him. We aren't going to
waste His time. Our Father created all things and we are heirs of it. We are
somebody. We are children of God. His love for us is such that it doesn't
pay dividends to doubt Him. We are just wasting His time.]
James 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
[Double-minded means that first of all a person might claim to be a good
Christian but then the same person reverts right back to ways of the world.
A single-minded person without God is almost as bad as a double-minded
person. A double-minded person is like a fraud.]
James 1:9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
[Let the brother glory in the fact that he works hard and he will be
James 1:10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of
the grass he shall pass away.
[This means rich with ill-gotten gains. If a person is rich in flesh rather
than in faith and eternal blessings that he might have in the hereafter then
he will fade away.
If a person is rich with God's blessings then that is a different matter.]
James 1:11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it
withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the
fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
[Again, this is a person rich with ill-gotten gains. All of his riches
exists in the physical earth not spiritually. Just like a flower fades away
to dirt so do our flesh bodies. If we do not have anything stored up
eternally then we would be in a heap of hurt.]
James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is
tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to
them that love him.
[That is a promise of God forever. God keeps His promises. He cannot lie. He
cannot disillusion. There is a condition here: the promise is for those that
James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God
cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
[God never tempts a person. God does not burden us. God has told us how to
As it is written:
Jeremiah 23:33 And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask
thee, saying, What is the burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say unto them,
What burden? I will even forsake you, saith the LORD.
Jeremiah 23:34 And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that
shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even punish that man and his
Jeremiah 23:35 Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one
to his brother, What hath the LORD answered? and, What hath the LORD spoken?
Jeremiah 23:36 And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for
every man's word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the
living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.
Jeremiah 23:37 Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What hath the LORD
answered thee? and, What hath the LORD spoken?
Jeremiah 23:38 But since ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus
saith the LORD; Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have
sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;
Jeremiah 23:39 Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I
will forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast
you out of my presence:
Jeremiah 23:40 And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a
perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten.
[The Lord does not bring burdens upon us. God makes it simple to follow His
instructions. We need to be careful and not ever dare to think that God has
something bad lined up for us today. He doesn't have to bring something bad
on us. He could just stop protecting us. God strengthens us and provides our
protection. It is a wicked world but He has that love, protection and
understanding, not burdens for us.
Do not be unsure of the fact that God does not bring burdens. Be sure that
He loves His children. We are made in the image of God. We have emotions and
so does God. His love is so great and look at all He has done for us. We are
His children. He doesn't want us to be in trouble or have burdens. We are
responsible for ourselves. God has made promises to protect people and as
long as we follow His love and understanding. We can fix our own problems by
being a doer. We do not need to blame others for our problems.]
James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust,
[Everybody is tempted when he allows himself to be tempted. Some people are
James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin,
when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
[That is just the way it is. We want to be very careful and not take that
James 1:16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
[We do not want to be deceived by man's traditions that make void the word
of God whereby we might fall outside the love and protection of Almighty
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh
down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow
[Every good thing comes from above just like our very souls came from above.
All gifts come from above because they come from God, not burdens, but gifts
that allow us to get it done. God trusts us when we love Him and He will
stand with us unless we turn on Him. It is a wicked world. We need to stay
in His word and not be a doubter. He loves us.]
James 1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that
we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
[It is important to notice one part of this. Of His own will He begat us
with the word of truth. We should stick with His word.]
James 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear,
slow to speak, slow to wrath:
[Listen to the word of God and absorb it with understanding. Until we have
the knowledge we should be slow to speak and slow to anger except for
James 1:20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
[When we absorb the word of God; listen to it, understand it and then we can
be doers. If we get hot-headed over every little thing then where is our
patience, love and Christianity?]
James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of
naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to
save your souls.
[We are one of God's firstfruits when we do what is right. Righteousness is
an anchor of Christianity. Superfluity of naughtiness means excess
naughtiness or an overflowing of wickedness. Our soul is our true body and
true self. Whether we are in our flesh body or our spiritual body we still
have the same soul.
Engrafted means transplanted, implanted, joined or united closely.]
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your
[It clearly says that we are to be doers of the word and not hearers only.
That means we are to do something for God. We were given gifts by God to
share with others. When we let God's word become a part of our life, we can
share our smile or pick others up when they are down. We can do other things
according to the gifts that God has given us. We are not to be overzealous.]
James 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like
unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
[In the morning when we walk up to the mirror, we see our face in the
James 1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway
forgetteth what manner of man he was.
[When we walk away from the mirror, the picture of our face in the glass
goes away. This means the same as never accomplishing anything worthwhile
other than a fading reflection in a mirror.]
James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth
therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man
shall be blessed in his deed.
[We can count on this because God said it. If we do what He says then He
will fulfill His part and bless us in our doing. If we do it enough we will
even get good at it. We progress as we produce because we are good for
something. When we are doers of God work who listen and engraft in His word
we are blessed.]
James 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his
tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
[This word religious as it is used here means in a ceremonial, pious way.
All good and perfect gifts come from above not what some pious hypocrite
dreams up. When we engraft the word of God in our minds and let our thoughts
filter through the word of God in our minds then we can make the decision of
what is right.]
James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To
visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself
unspotted from the world.
[We need to keep ourselves from the ways of the world.
Most of the people who are scattered through the world think they are
Fatherless. The 10 tribes went north over the Caucasus Mountains. They later
migrated to Europe or the United States. They called themselves Saxons or
Caucasians. Saxons means Isaac's sons. Caucasian isn't anything special
other than they crossed over the Caucasus Mountains. Father knows exactly
where we are and what we are thinking. He's our Father and we are a part of
The widows in their affliction are ones whose savior died on the cross and
they were left widows. There will be another marriage and they need to be
prepared for the true Christ, not the false one.
James' name means Jacob, the father of the 12 tribes.
Strong's Concordance, Greek, James: 2385. Iakobos ee-ak'-o-bos the same as
2384 Graecized; Jacobus, the name of three Israelites:--James.
God has impressed through James that God's will is important - not my will
or your will but God's will be done.]
James 2:1 My brethren, have not the faith
of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
James 2:2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in
goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
James 2:3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say
unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou
there, or sit here under my footstool:
[Being a respecter of persons means showing partiality. In this case,
choosing the one who appears rich over the one who appears poor. We cannot
see the riches of the heart, mind and soul like God can.
God cares about souls and the salvation of souls and so should we. God does
not want religion to make judgments on people, particularly regarding their
past. God forgives and so should we. When we take on the law of liberty then
through repentance the law sets us free.]
James 2:4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of
[This means they are saying they are Christians but they practice something
totally different showing partiality to certain people.]
James 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this
world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them
that love him?
[God our Father owns everything. We could be loaded with money but we can be
mocked by the world because we are Christians. God blesses those who earn it
and we do not have to apologize for that.]
James 2:6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and
draw you before the judgment seats?
[Some rich get rich by ill-gotten gains and they won't mind dragging you
into court to make more money.]
James 2:7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?
[What are we called? We are called Christians and there are those who
blaspheme Christ and thereby they blaspheme us. It's an insult to Almighty
James 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou
shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
[If we treat our neighbor as we want to be treated ourselves then we will do
well. What we sow we will reap.]
James 2:9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are
convinced of the law as transgressors.
[If we will only be friends with rich (from ill-gotten gains) and important
people then we are committing sin. This means people who are respecters of
people to the point of looking down on poor people, for example. If we
choose the rich who are rich with God's blessings that is alright but not to
be just partial to them.]
James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one
point, he is guilty of all.
James 2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill.
Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a
transgressor of the law.
[This word kill is phoneuo in the Greek.
Strong's Concordance, Greek, kill: 5407. phoneuo fon-yoo'-o from 5406; to be
a murderer (of):--kill, do murder, slay.
This means criminal homicide or murder. There are many types of murder and
God's law differs on them. It is quite different when one lies in wait just
because they are mean than when one murders in a crime of passion. God takes
those things into account. It still breaks the law. The royal law of God
which is the law of the King of Kings that inserts forgiveness. The beauty
of this is that Christ forgives sin. If we break a law and ask for
forgiveness then our souls are saved.]
James 2:12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law
[Man just trips up, stumbles and makes errors. Accepting Christ is important
because when we mess up we are forgiven. He's a forgiver. Follow the new
covenant, the New Testament. It doesn't harm us to be judged by the law of
liberty because upon repentance we are forgiven. This saves us.]
James 2:13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no
mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
[In other words if we don't show any mercy, we will not receive any mercy.
Repentance without mercy is not much. God expects us to show mercy,
understanding, forgiveness and compassion.]
James 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith,
and have not works? can faith save him?
[When we repent and ask Christ to come into our lives then that is automatic
because we have the faith to believe. After we have the faith to believe
then we become a servant and servants are supposed to serve. After faith it
requires a little bit of work. We are the captains of our own ships.]
James 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
James 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and
filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to
the body; what doth it profit?
[If they are starving and we do not help them they may starve to death.
However it is important to remember that the famine of the end times is for
the hearing of God's word.
As it is written:
Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a
famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of
hearing the words of the LORD:
When we tell people what is happening in this world and what God says will
happen then they are fed. People are more scared when they do not know what
will happen. Share the truth with them. That is what he is talking about
here on the deeper level. Bring them into the light. We walk in light, not
darkness. When one is void of truth we can help them if our credibility is
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
[Faith, by itself, will not cut it. We should be hearers and doers of the
word. God's word tells us how to be successful and how to receive God's
blessings. If we have the faith to believe the word and we do not do
anything with that then we are spiritually dead. God says faith without
works is dead. Faith is a beautiful thing but if we do not work at
understanding God's word then we aren't going to be blessed by it.]
James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me
thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
[Absorb that and think about it. When we begin to work for God and do
something for Him then we have to have faith in Him or we wouldn't have
started the work. This then shows faith or we would not have done the work
to begin with. Man can be lazy. If they don't have faith in God then they
wouldn't hustle for Him. If we don't have works then others can't see our
faith. By our fruit we are known.]
James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils
also believe, and tremble.
[Knowing doesn't catch it by itself. It is knowing and doing that cuts it.]
James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
[As it is written:
Revelation 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write,
Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the
Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow
There is only one thing we can take with us when our flesh life is dead and
that is works. Our works follow us. Our righteous acts, our works, knit the
fine linen that makes our robe in heaven. If we don't have any righteous
acts or works then we will be naked in heaven.
As it is written:
Revelation 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine
linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
[The righteousness of saints is the same as our righteous acts. The saints
are the set aside ones for Christ.
As it is written:
Revelation 3:4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled
their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
[Your white garments in heaven are your righteous acts that you receive by
helping your fellow man.]
Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white
raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I
will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
[He that overcometh shall be clothed in white raiment; the purity of grace
shall be rewarded with the perfect purity of glory.
God expects us who have faith and love Him to help our brothers and sisters.
We will do this if we want to amount to something. That is important.
Worldly knowledge, earthly wisdom, not spiritual wisdom will not help us
much in the millennium. We need God's wisdom, understanding His word, so we
can teach and share His truth, feeding the starving people who need a word
of understanding in this perilous times.]
James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had
offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
[Abraham had prayed for that offspring. He was 100 years old and still
didn't have a son by Sarah. When he received that son, God told him to climb
Mount Moriah and prepare a sacrifice to sacrifice his son. Abraham obeyed
God. He had the sword raised to sacrifice that son he loved but God stopped
him and provided a lamb tangled in the bush. Abraham had faith in God
knowing that no matter what God would raise that son to life. He obeyed
James 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was
faith made perfect?
[Abraham's son lived. Works without faith is dead.
As it is also written:
2nd Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded
you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
2nd Thessalonians 3:11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you
disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed
God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the
Friend of God.
[As it is written:
2 Chronicles 20:7 Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants
of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham
thy friend for ever?
James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by
James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by
James 2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when
she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
[As it is written:
Joshua 2:2 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came
men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.
Joshua 2:3 And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the
men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be
come to search out all the country.
Joshua 2:4 And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus,
There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:
If Rahab had not helped and done work to hide those two men that God had
sent to search out the land then they would have been killed. Men called
Rahab a harlot, not God. Rahab had faith and she had works.]
James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without
works is dead also.
[When we die our spirit leaves our body. Our body without our spirit is
dead. Without works that show our faith, then our faith is dead also.]
3:1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the
[God's truth always sets us free. We should not ever forget that.
The word masters mean master teachers. Judgment starts at the pulpit. It's
better not to have someone who misleads people claim to be a teacher. If
people feel truly led of God to be a teacher then this should not be a
hindrance to them. Teachers are accountable for the souls that they lead
James 3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word
[tongue], the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
[If a man's tongue teaches the true word then he's a perfect man. As good as
some are and as good as we try to be, the wisest man messes up sometimes.
Even the very best can offend by misspeaking at times. If someone is playing
preacher/teacher that is not even familiar with the word then look what a
problem that is.
As it is written earlier in this book:
James 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his
tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
Traditions of men make void the true law of liberty. Our works and faith
give us eternal life. We are playing for high stakes here. Our very
existence for the eternity is what matters.
We can check a man out through the word. God gave us a second witness in the
word. That second witness is always precious. We should let God's word speak
with clarity. It's very simple. Christ taught in the simplicity that anyone
with an open mind and a clear that will listen to Him rather than man could
ascertain the very inner meaning of the word without any help from anyone.
God's word will flow like honey over the buds of the mind. We need to be
careful whom we listen to. We need to bridle man's words and search for the
truth in God's word.]
James 3:3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us;
and we turn about their whole body.
[Even a large horse can be reigned and brought to obedience. Can a man
bridle his tongue?]
James 3:4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are
driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm,
whithersoever the governor listeth.
[Even large ships are turned with a small wheel. Horses and ships can be
James 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things.
Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
[The tongue is a very small thing. A very small thing like a little spark of
fire can cause a very large fire. So it is with the small tongue. A little
lie can cause big problems and lead us towards destruction.]
James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue
among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the
course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
[The tongue mixed in evilness is like a fire. The course of nature is the
round of life like the wheel of life. Once a little piece of gossip is set
loose, it can cause much destruction. The tongue is a dangerous thing in
life. All of Christianity comes into play here. The most beautiful thing in
Christianity is forgiveness. There is sin in messing up but there is
repentance upon forgiveness. Repentance washes away the sin and Christians
are supposed to pay attention to that. Sowing little seeds of untruth in a
very good family can cause a great deal of damage. The tongue that starts
little fires is a dangerous thing.
There's nothing wrong in being conservative in your judgments but we need to
act when God tells us to step out. Common sense needs to prevail. Meanwhile
loose tongues ship sinks.]
James 3:7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of
things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
[The very nature of man allows him to conquer that which is natural as
nature itself. Man knows how to handle things. But man has the greatest
trouble with his little tongue.]
James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of
[The man can tame all kinds of animals but cannot tame his little tongue.]
James 3:9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we
men, which are made after the similitude of God.
James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My
brethren, these things ought not so to be.
James 3:11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and
[That just doesn't happen. It's just not the way it is. We are not supposed
to judge people but we can discern them. They will either follow the word of
God or the word of man. The word of God brings comfort and peace of mind.
The word of man brings unrest and will upset us with confusion. Behind the
scenes in what man chooses to do or what not to do, when we are trying to do
it God's way, it will ultimately happen to the good or to the best. That is
God's blessings. With God's blessings we are okay but without them we are
lost souls. It is important that we utilize good judgment and discernment in
all things. We should always follow the word of God. We should always check
men out in the word of God and let our Father be the judge. God brings us
the living water so that we will never thirst again as long as we stick with
James 3:13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him
shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
[A good rule of thumb is when man gives the credit to God. Meekness,
humility and humbleness remind us that it is God's word. God's blessings
follow from trusting in God's word. We should not take credit for God's word
but give all credit and glory to Almighty God so that those rich blessings
flow into our lives. When people say "my works" they are not giving credit
James 3:14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory
not, and lie not against the truth.
[Do not boast about bitter envying and strife! And we should not lie about
the word. God doesn't send burdens. God brings burdens upon themselves. Our
Father wants nothing but the best for us.]
James 3:15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual,
[That wisdom came from the ways of the world. That will not get you the
blessings of God. Without the blessings of God then we are indeed lost
souls. Without the blessings of God we could call ourselves whatever we want
but if we are not following the word of God it doesn't really matter.
Everything is in the book. God has foretold us all things. His word is such
a beautiful thing. With His word we have blessings. If we expect blessings
from God then we better study the truth that comes from His word not that
which is sensual or earthly.]
James 3:16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every
[There is such a commotion and confusion that without the truth of God's
word then most people will not know what is going on. All blessings come
from above. All blessings come from God. Anything else that might boost us
or tempt us will not last compared to eternal life. Obtaining eternal life
is the greatest blessing of all. God is the author of peace. He is not the
author of confusion.]
James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable,
gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy [love] and good fruits,
without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
[God does not play favorites. He loves all of His children. He treats and
blesses us as we deserve. God gifts us as we deserve. If we have a gift from
God then we need to credit God with that gift.
Strong's Concordance, Greek, gift: 5485. charis khar'-ece from 5463;
graciousness (as gratifying), of manner or act (abstract or concrete;
literal, figurative or spiritual; especially the divine influence upon the
heart, and its reflection in the life; including gratitude):--acceptable,
benefit, favour, gift, grace(- ious), joy, liberality, pleasure, thank(-s,
Strong's Concordance, Greek, gift: 5486. charisma khar'-is-mah from 5483; a

(spiritual) endowment, i.e. (subjectively) religious qualification, or
(objectively) miraculous faculty:--(free) gift.
God gives us understanding. God is not the author of confusion.]
James 3:18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make
[That is how peacemakers come to be, sowing righteousness and doing what is
right. When we sow God's word and that truth in His simplicity, we are
sowing righteousness. Peace makes life so much better. Peace is what we all
desire with our Father. Righteousness brings that forth. We have nothing to
gossip about. When people fall short and we gossip that harms the body of
4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even
of your lusts that war in your members?
[There are cliques in so-called churches. This self-gratification and
pleasures received from playing church can get people into trouble. If this
pulls the people away from the word of God then they have a problem. They
will eventually have sects breaking off.]
James 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot
obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
[All wisdom comes from God. He wrote this letter to us so we could be
comforted, blessed and led. When people start arguing and killing the main
desire to serve Him, they won't receive God's blessings. They sometimes go
off into their own pleasures and ideas of religion and it is vain. When they
take God's word and add their own twist, then they kill it.]
James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume
it upon your lusts.
[Again, this is regarding self-pleasures. When people ask for blessings they
can ask for gifts to help their fellow man. They could ask for the gift of
touching someone's very soul and spirit to lift them up. They could ask for
the ability to help heal broken hearts and souls. God gives gifts without
repentance. He will never call the gift back. Ask to be a blessing to others
and do it humbly.]
James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of
the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the
world is the enemy of God.
[That is to say, the ways of the world, this cosmos is enmity with God. In
the older manuscripts the word adulterers is not there. The subject is
churches and professors or teachers. God is calling the teachers a bunch of
adulteresses because they are polluting and changing the words of the Lord.
If they are going to play priests to the world that wants to take the word
God out of our vocabulary then that is adulterating God's word. It messes up
the lay person so that they have trouble following the Lord.
The world becomes very twisted and very flaky compared to the truth that
comes from above. It is sin to bring this into the church and teach it as
right. God's blessings do not flow to the enemies of God. If the church is
confusing people then that is like an enemy to God.
As it is written:
Ezekiel 16:23 And it came to pass after all thy wickedness, (woe, woe unto
thee! saith the LORD GOD;)
Ezekiel 16:24 That thou hast also built unto thee an eminent place, and hast
made thee an high place in every street.
[They built a church but eminent place means a brothel house. Every corner
has a church steeple but God doesn't like a church that is of the world.]
Ezekiel 16:25 Thou hast built thy high place at every head of the way, and
hast made thy beauty to be abhorred, and hast opened thy feet to every one
that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredoms.
[They are called adulterers because they mix the world into the word of God.
Some people wonder why God doesn't answer their prayers. When people go the
way of the world and are friends more with the world than God, then is it
any wonder that God abhors that?
The people are starving for truth. All they need is food and they will be
there. On a cold winter day, the stock will follow the farmer and almost run
him down, when he feeds them well. When preachers teach God's word then they
will never have a problem with having students. People want the truth. Feed
them and they will be happy and God will be happy. Remember God's will. He's
our Father and He's in church. If we don't please Him then we are in a heap
James 4:5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that
dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
[As it is written:
Genesis 6:5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth,
and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil
Genesis 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and
it grieved him at his heart.
It grieved God that He had made man because flesh reaches out to do wrong
unless you let your spirit lead your body. Our flesh likes pleasure and what
it wants so it is natural but we need to have discipline and control over
our body. If we follow the world and leave God out of the equation of our
life then we are in trouble. All blessings and wisdom come from above. If we
let our guard down we can have bad thoughts.]
James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the
proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
[Those that like to let God's nature reside within themselves rather than
worship nature itself will have grace. Worship God and stick with God. He
will always take care of us because He gives us a mind that is sharp.
Everyone fears war but when those thoughts arise we can overcome our flesh
through the power of God. There is none of us perfect. The word perfect in
the Greek means mature.
Strong's Concordance, Greek, perfect: 5046. teleios tel'-i-os from 5056;
complete (in various applications of labor, growth, mental and moral
character, etc.); neuter (as noun, with 3588) completeness:--of full age,
Strong's Concordance, Greek, perfect: 5048. teleioo tel-i-o'-o from 5046; to
complete, i.e. (literally) accomplish, or (figuratively) consummate (in
character):--consecrate, finish, fulfil, make) perfect.]
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will
flee from you.
[We always have that flesh man that grieves God that He had made man flesh.
We should then give ourselves to God. We do not have to worry about evil
because we can conquer it. We do not have to let our guard down or let flesh
There is nothing wrong with admiring the work of God but when someone lusts
for it that is a different story. We aren't sinning by breathing. We are
made in God's image and the angel's image. What is natural is natural.
Resist the devil and he will flee from us.
Sometimes people listen to the devil instead of the word of God. If we don't
resist the devil then he laughs at us.]
James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your
hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
[This isn't complicated. Being double-minded is being of the world and of
religion. We need to think on that which is right.]
James 4:9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to
mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
[If we don't have it right that is what will happen.]
James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you
[This is so simple! We should not be proud of ourselves. We should ask the
Father and humble ourselves to be helpful to Him then He will raise us up
and make us successful.]
James 4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of
his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth
the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a
[We have the proper right to discern but we only have one true judge and
that is God. We should not judge people though.]
James 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who
art thou that judgest another?
[There is only one entity that can judge and at the same time destroy.
As it is written:
Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to
kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and
body in hell.
[We should not fear those that can kill us physically because they cannot
kill our soul. Only one can kill our soul or cause it to perish in hell. Our
Father, who has control, owns our souls.
That word destroy means perish.
As it is written:
John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
If a man disagrees with you about the word twice then let it go and let him
go otherwise it would be casting pearls before swine.]
James 4:13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such
a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
[Did they pray about it and ask His will or are they just going to do it? Do
not leave God out of the equation.]
James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your
life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then
[We do not know what the morrow brings. Our life can end at any minute. Our
life is like a mist and then it disappears into another dimension. Always
bring God into the equation. Ask God for His guidance and His will. All
wisdom comes from God.]
James 4:15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do
this, or that.
[This is so simple. We need to keep this in our mind. All wisdom comes from
above that is pure, protecting and successful. He's our Father. If our
Father doesn't want a certain thing then why should we want it? He wants us
to be successful and do it well. When His will is done then we have success
right at our fingertips.]
James 4:16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
[It's so much easier to pray for something, asking if it is in His will.]
James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to
him it is sin.
[God will lift us up and allow us to succeed. If we go against His will then
that is sin. Satan is the one who wants to hurt us. Our Father wants us to
succeed. Some will adulterate the word of God. The word is simple and we can
understand the word of God when we follow the subject matter.]
James 5:1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that
shall come upon you.
[This is to say people that are rich with ill-gotten gains. Or it can be a
person who through his wealth has become attached to his money-making
abilities and is not fair in any of his dealings and unjust to others.
Why does it seem like the bad guys always get ahead?
In Psalms, there is an acrostic that an answers this question. We do not
have to worry about the bad getting ahead because they are like the fat of
the lamb roasting on the spit. Those who have ill-gotten gains never get
ahead in the long run.
When God blesses you with riches do not apologize for it. He knows what we
need and He will add it on to us when we do His work. That's God's promise.
Never apologize for the blessings of God because that is His reward.
This verse is addressing people who are unjust and oppressive over money.]
James 5:2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
[In other words they are eating themselves up. Everything we do goes into
the Book of Life. This refers to people who lie awake at night planning how
to do their brothers in to get money.]
James 5:3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a
witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have
heaped treasure together for the last days.
[This last days means also they planned ahead without looking forward to the
return of Christ. They live for the moment. They heap treasures for the last
days but their horded money does them no good. They will be judged by God on
James 5:4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your
fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them
which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
[Sabaoth means armies and the Lord of sabaoth translated means the Lord of Hosts.
Strong's Concordance, Greek, sabaoth: 4519. sabaoth sab-ah-owth' of Hebrew
origin (6635 in feminine plural); armies; sabaoth (i.e. tsebaoth), a
military epithet of God:--sabaoth.
God hears everything and God knows everything. This is why unjust riches
will not get a person anywhere. Our Father is a respecter of fairness and
honesty. That is exactly the way He keeps it. He blesses those who
appreciate fairness and doing that which is right or righteousness. Our
Father pays attention. He knows.]
James 5:5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have
nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
[A fatted calf kept in a stall and fed the best of everything is like how
some people live right up to the time of judgment or day or slaughter (for
some). When they live and act like that they are preparing themselves for
the slaughter because He who can save your soul from hell is watching.]
James 5:6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.
[They condemned and killed Jesus Christ and He did not open His mouth when
they led Him up to be tried. Christ was crucified to bring salvation to all
As it is written:
Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and
blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he
might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
He came in the flesh, just like us, so He could destroy the devil and death
When that final day comes, and it will, Judgment will reign supreme.]
James 5:7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord.
Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath
long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
[Christ is looking forward to that wedding. Are you going to be part of the
wedding? We wouldn't want to be like that fatted calf. The precious fruit is
the elect who produce fruit.
The early and latter rain is an agricultural term for producing fruit. The
early rain germinates and sprouts the seed into the grain. But if the sprout
doesn't receive the latter rain it will blast in the field and there will be
no fruit. When it comes to receiving the early rain or truth of God's word
it is good to know who we are and the general working plan of God. However
without the latter rain or truth of the word preparing for the Lord's
return, then we could blast in the field if we aren't careful. The
antichrist comes first and deceives many people. The latter rain is the real
truth of the Lord's return, the events that consummate the end of this age
that takes us into the millennial age. The cultivator only takes the just.]
James 5:8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the
Lord draweth nigh.
[We need to establish our minds and get our minds set so that we are not
reeds blowing in the wind. Now we come to that time with the latter rain
that we know we are the generation of the fig tree that produces the good
fig. We need to be patient. We need to use the word of God and let it settle
in your mind and sink in so we can set our hearts and minds upon it.]
James 5:9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned:
behold, the judge standeth before the door.
[We shouldn't quarrel. The Judge stands before the door and there is only
one judge, our Father. Wouldn't it be terrible if our Father had to judge us
out or down? That would be so embarrassing or unnecessary. There is no
reason to quarrel about things, lest we be condemned. If we are confused
then we need to ask God for guidance and seek His word, asking for wisdom
from above. We will come up short if our wisdom is from the earth. The Judge
stands at the door and He is watching.]
James 5:10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of
the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
[The prophets went through a lot. They suffered. One example is Jeremiah.
Jeremiah was thrown in a well. His mind was set on the word of God and they
could not sway him away from it.]
James 5:11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the
patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very
pitiful, and of tender mercy.
[Job means persecution. Satan wants Job's soul.
As it is written:
Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves
before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
Job 1:7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan
answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from
walking up and down in it.
Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job ,
that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one
that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
Job 1:9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
Job 1:10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and
about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his
hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
Job 1:11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he
will curse thee to thy face.
Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy
power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from
the presence of the LORD.
[God does have a wall around us. We have power and authority over satan in
the name of Jesus Christ. Job lost everything and had terrible boils. Three
friends come around and for 38 chapters they speak nonsense to Job. Then God
comes to Job and tells Job to stand up like a man. God asks Job where he was
when God put the stars in the heaven. God asked Job where he was when God
put the earth in orbit. God asked Job why he wasn't listening to and seeking
God. But in the end God blessed Job with double for Job's faith. Job obeyed
God and God blessed Job.
We are children of God so we should act like it. Faith in the truth and
doing what is right will take us farther than we can go on our own.]
James 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven,
neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea;
and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
[Law by precedent or studying by precedent is nothing like saying the Lord
says it and that's it. Yea or Nay, thus says the Lord period.]
James 5:13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him
James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church;
and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
[Anointing is very, very important. The Lord does the healing. If we don't
use the oil of our people or ask in His name then we aren't doing it God's
way. The name Christ means "the anointed one." Even the etymology of His
name means to rub as an anointing with the oil of our people.
Strong's Concordance, Greek, Christ: 5547. Christos khris-tos' from 5548;
anointed, i.e. the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus:--Christ.
Strong's Concordance, Greek, Christ: 5548. chrio khree'-o probably akin to
5530 through the idea of contact; to smear or rub with oil, i.e. (by
implication) to consecrate to an office or religious service:--anoint.
Olive oil is healthy but when it is blessed as the anointing oil of our
people in the true name of the true, elaia, that is God's name.
Strong's Concordance, Greek, olive oil: 1637. elaion el'-ah-yon neuter of
the same as 1636; olive oil:--oil.
Strong's Concordance, Greek, olive oil: 1636. elaia el-ah'-yah feminine of a
presumed derivative from an obsolete primary; an olive (the tree or the
fruit):--olive (berry, tree).
In the name of Christ, we ask for the healing and He does the healing.]
James 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall
raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
[The word sick in verses 14 and 15 are two different things. In James 5:14,
the word sick there, is astheneo.
Strong's Concordance, Greek, sick: 770. astheneo as-then-eh'-o from 772; to
be feeble (in any sense):--be diseased, impotent folk (man), (be) sick, (be,
be made) weak.
Astheneo means feeble from a disease, an illness of any type whatsoever. The
word sick in James 5:15 is kamno.
Strong's Concordance, Greek, sick: 2577. kamno kam'-no apparently a primary
verb; properly, to toil, i.e. (by implication) to tire (figuratively, faint,
sicken):--faint, sick, be wearied.
Kamno means tired or it can mean tired from toil even burned out. Kamno
means no energy. The prayer of faith will save them from it putting zeal and
strength back into their body. If a person has sinned then it is forgiven
upon repentance with that prayer of faith. Faith unlocks doors. Love is the
key to the kingdom and faith opens the door. That faith is so important.
A person who knows what anointing is should never anoint someone who doesn't
ask for it. It will not help if they don't have faith and it is casting
pearls before swine. When a person asks for it then that shows they are
familiar with the word and know that Christ is the Anointed One and in His
name they want healing.
God is putting together two armies. There is one in the kingdom of heaven
and another on the kingdom of earth. We are His servants and He will utilize
us wherever it is necessary.]
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another,
that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man
[Christians have a way of getting carried away. Once we sin and repent then
we need the faith to know it is erased and it doesn't exist anymore. He
doesn't want us to keep repeating talk of the sins over. Prayer works.
Prayer is effective. It is prayer that casts our evil spirits.]
James 5:17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed
earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the
space of three years and six months.
[Elias means Elijah in the Greek tongue. Elijah was like us. Elijah was a
good man of God. Elijah knew the prophecy. He prayed it and it happened.
James 5:18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth
brought forth her fruit.
[We need the early rain that brings us into the word of God and the truth.
That latter rain produces the fruit so we know what transpires in the end
times so we can stand up with our minds set.]
James 5:19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert
James 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error
of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
[Saving a soul from death means saving a soul from the final death. His good
works will cover a multitude of sins. A righteous person is someone who does
right or really tries to do what is right from his or her heart and mind.
When we are familiar with the scripture as events come to pass, the word is
real. We need the early rain so we know the truth of His word and we need
the latter rain so we know what will happen prior to Judgment Day. He
created us for His pleasure. When we earnestly ask, He hears and that is why
the oil of our people becomes so important. All of these things are still
very much in effect.
We must have one element and that is faith that the word is real.
Christianity is not a religion. Christianity is a reality. Christianity is
life. A person, who through the word, converts and saves a soul, saves a
This book of James is a great teacher. We need to really think about this
